Blooming Culture founder Andreana Pena on the benefits of CBD for pets and people

Blooming culture was born from my passion for animals and a personal need to find pain relief. It was almost serendipitous how together they lead me to discover the amazing benefits of CBD.

After years of suffering unbearable and unexplainable pain, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Being young, I was both shocked and terrified. I was a runner, year-round cyclist, and worked out regularly.

I had become an expert at tolerating pain. Shooting pains in my head, pelvic injections, and not being able to move my arms or neck were my new normal. As were the horrible side effects of prescription drugs and five rounds of therapy that had no lasting results. Doctoring became a full time job and it was financially draining.

Pain has a way of breaking your mind, body, and spirit but I refused to give up my quest to heal.

Alternative Medicine

Desperate for relief, I turned to holistic medicine. One of the first things my doctor suggested was CBD. I was skeptical for sure, but very determined to keep an open mind. I just needed to research the topic in depth before making a decision.

It’s a fact most people believe CBD is the same as marijuana. That stigma is deep rooted and it’s what prompted me to meet with the cannabis community. I traveled to different states and spoke to industry experts - and tested lots of products.

The most interesting and resounding feedback I got from everyone was "CBD works on me and my pet. It's made my life better."  And, that was the "ah hah" moment when Blooming Culture was born. There was a universal need and I was going to fill it.

CBD was changing my life for the better. If I could improve the quality of life for animals I wanted to be that change agent.

First and foremost, I wanted to create a brand that was transparent from grower to end product. Believe it or not, many companies don’t disclose their source or grower and trick you with lower pricing for less. I wanted a product line that customers could trust and wouldn’t have to research to ensure it was safe for their pet.

It was important that anything your pet ingested be sourced in the USA. Using premium human grade ingredients with no preservatives or flavorings – even natural ones were an absolute.

The cannaboidiol we use is organically grown on a Colorado farm (that I visited) and licensed by the Department of Agriculture. The SunButter is organic and made from seeds grown in North Dakota, not China – with no added sugar or salt. Our cranberries are unsweetened and sourced from a farm in Wisconsin. Some of our topical ingredients are globally sourced only because they are unable to grow here.  But, they are fairly traded or sustainable and we consider them to be premium grade and non-toxic yet effective.

We will always do our due diligence to never compromise on quality. I founded sister company ARRFSCARF which makes handmade meat-based dog ice cream because there were no healthful frozen treats on the market. I’m proud to say that today it’s a well regarded brand. My goal then was to make pups happy.  Now, I wanted to improve their well being.

The name Blooming Culture is rooted in the belief that we are all on this site exploring the brand with the intent of health and wellness. After seven years in the pet business, I believe that building a strong brand comes from listening to those who use it.

Speaking to consumers and stores where marijuana is legal, CBD sales are growing because people see results. In states where it’s not legal, it is highly regarded in the animal rescue communities where it’s proven effective in helping shelter animals with anxiety or illness.

Today, there’s so much anecdotal evidence that CBD works as an alternative treatment people are slowly changing their mindset and with that comes acceptance.

We want to hear from you as a human or pet parent what works and what doesn’t. We are not only a culture but a community and the bigger we grow, the more knowledge we can share. Blooming Culture has one goal – to better your pet’s wellbeing and add value to yours.
