Himalayan Dog Chew Recipe
We made this Himalayan Dog Chew aka "Yak Cheese Chews" treat recipe from Planet Paws; Dr. Karen Becker and Rodney Habib. Originally we tried to substitute out the organic whole milk with goat's milk, but it would not curdle. We have read other commenters that make the Himalayan Dog Chew recipe using only cottage cheese instead of making their own curds, but we preferred to make these chews from scratch.
Himalayan dog chews are a great option for any pup that loves to chew and is much better for their teeth than rawhides or any plastic bone! Also, you can make this entire batch of treats for apx. $10
1 Gallon Organic Milk
1/2 Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice
1 t Pink Himalayan Salt
•Bring 1 gallon of organic milk to a boil on low heat while stirring frequently.
•Turn down the heat and slowly pour in lemon juice.
•Keep stirring for 1- 2 minutes and add salt.
•Curds should start to form.
•Turn off heat and strain out curds in a fine strainer, or cheesecloth.
•Use the cheesecloth to squeeze as much liquid out as possible.
•The less liquid, the harder the chew.
•Put a weighted item on top of the curds after spreading them out and let sit overnight.
•After apx. 12-15 hours cut into desired length and width, along with uneven edges.
•Continue to let dry until they are hard.
•Serve!
Make sure you are always supervising your dog while they are eating a chew. We recommend introducing any new chew to your dog slowly to avoid any stomach upset. We hope your dog loves these Himalayan Dog Chews as much as ours did.
